Understanding Physical Disability

A physical disability is a significant and long-term condition that affects a part of a person’s body, impairing their physical functioning, mobility, stamina, or dexterity.

This loss of physical capability can reduce or eliminate the ability to perform movements such as walking, using hands and arms, sitting, standing, or controlling muscles.

While a physical disability doesn't necessarily prevent you from performing specific tasks, it makes them more challenging. For example, daily activities like getting dressed or gripping and carrying objects may take longer to complete.

It's important to understand that defining a physical disability focuses on its impact on daily life, including the ability to perform work-related activities, rather than the condition itself.

A person may be born with a physical disability or acquire it later in life due to an accident, injury, illness, or as a side effect of a medical condition. Examples of physical disabilities include cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, carpal tunnel syndrome, amputations, and spinal cord injuries.

Person-centred support and care for Physical Disabilities

We provide support for all types of physical disabilities, whether temporary or permanent, inherited or acquired.

Our expertise includes caring for individuals with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, amputations, multiple sclerosis, spina bifida, musculoskeletal injuries, and muscular dystrophy.

Many people with physical disabilities also have other conditions, such as learning disabilities, brain injuries, mental health needs, or additional health requirements.

Our skilled teams are trained to support individuals with a range of complex needs.

Our support is highly personalized and flexible, person centred care and support ranging from a few hours a week to 24/7 care.

We take the time to understand each person and those important to them, ensuring we are aware of their past challenges, current needs, and future aspirations.

This information helps us create tailored plans that enable the individuals we support to live happy, fulfilling lives and achieve positive outcomes related to their personal goals.

Our support plans are adaptable, evolving as a person’s needs and abilities change.

We offer friendly encouragement to build confidence and independence. Any adjustments to our support are thoroughly discussed during regular feedback meetings with individuals, their loved ones, and relevant care professionals.

We actively listen to everyone’s feedback and wishes to re-enable them to achieve their chosen outcome and to ensure everyone stays engaged and informed about progress and successes.

STETSON UK recognise that individuals have varying needs and we tailor our service to meet those needs.

We have a team of fully qualified, Nurses and professionals’ health care personnel working to meet these needs through continuous assessment and improvement to promote these needs and the wellbeing of the individual.

We also set our standards through continually reviewing and evaluating our care packages.

You can arrange your assessment for home care and support through the Stetson E-portal, ensuring you remain safe and comfortable at home
